Want to get involved with clubs and activities at school? 

There is no shortage of ways to meet people, to get active, to serve the community, to improve the school, and to broaden your horizons.  From sports to theater to publications, Merion offers creative and collaborative opportunities for almost every interest and skill.

As Director of Student Activities, I encourage you to browse some highlights below of groups with which I've been lucky enough to work.  Or, you can also browse over to the official page for student activities on the Merion Mercy website.  That page will be much richer and more detailed.

Stage Crew (Technical Theater)

This dynamic group of Ladies in Black is a part of the Merion Mercy Music Theater program; they work tirelessly as a team to provide technical support for the dramas and musicals.  Members learn and take part in set design, power tool use, construction, painting, stage management, special effects, lights, and sound.  It is a big, but worthwhile commitment.  Training and teamwork are standard; experience helpful but not needed.

Recent shows include Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables (School Edition), Crazy for You, Into the Woods, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Beauty and the Beast, The Wiz, Diary of Anne Frank, Little Women, and Steel Magnolias.

Sign Language Club

Learn another language without using your voice.  A student-led and conceived club, the ASL group is thriving.  Members learn and practice rudimentary sign.  Recently, we hosted a speaker from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and, later, toured their school on a field trip.  Discussions on deaf culture in art and the news are also key.

Healthy Living Implementation Committee (formerly a part of Middle States accreditation)

Help Merion grow by promoting healthy life styles among our community.  This committee is an implementation team of faculty, staff, students, and parents who care about fitness, nutrition, and stress management.  The group meets to review, change, and act on Middle States accreditation steps (from now until 2012).  Recently, we witnessed the success of a school-wide "Health Awareness Week."
